Become an Islander in Tahiti
If you are looking for a week away in paradise then Tahiti is the place to go. Tahiti is the biggest island in French Polynesia. It’s crystal blue water makes it easy to see its array of sea life and the contrast of the white sand is breath taking. With only a set amount of time to explore the island, it is important to know how to spend your weeks stay and feel like a real islander. The islanders are known to be very friendly and welcoming. This island is not as heavily vacated by travelers as other islands like Hawaii which makes it a great place to getaway and really embrace the tropics. Here we have created a list of things to help you enjoy your vacation.
1. View the overwater bungalows
Tahiti, and its surrounding islands in French Polynesia, are notorious for their floating houses on the water. This lodging, known as overwater bungalows, come in a variety of styles. There are fewer than 200 resorts like these in the world. They are all built on stilts right on the ocean. Just imagine waking up to a view directly on the water. This experience will give you the boat stay feeling without the sea sickness. You should spend at least one of your nights in one of these resorts. The views are incredible and they are very private. It’s an adventure you’ll never forget. There are many different resorts to choose from. It is important to recognize that these aren’t the best for everyone. It isn’t recommended to stay in these hotels for family trips due to the fact that the majority of them only have one king size bed and could be potentially dangerous for children who could walk into the water. If you are traveling as a family you may consider simply exploring areas with these beautiful resorts.

2. Experience the dancing
If you aren’t much of a dancer then there are plenty of shows. Many of these shows offer a traditional Tahitian dinner to help you get the full cultural experience. The real cultural learning comes from the dancing though. These shows tell Tahitian legends through their movements and music. You will see that these dances are based on very rapid hip movement that is emphasized by their apparel. Their dances often portray day to day activities. The males usually hold some sort of weapon as a sign of war. It can be quite an exciting show to watch.
If you are feeling really enthusiastic, try taking a dancing class. Here they will teach you the basic steps to the art of Tahitian dancing, otherwise known as the Ori. Don’t stress too much about having dancing skills. These friendly islanders are there to help you. Maybe you can even take these dancing skills home as a souvenir.

3. Learn the art of the sea
Tahiti has many options for water activities. Consider taking sailing lessons. These classes can be taken as couples to continue your romantic getaway. If you’d rather relax and enjoy the scenery of your at sea ride then there are always guided tours. This would give you a better chance to observe the deep clear water and the sea life it holds. You can also watch the beautiful sunset as the light breeze brushes through your hair.
If you are wanting something a little more thrilling then surfing is the way to go. Tahiti offers private surfing lessons. This allows you to get the full attention you need to be able to catch your first wave. These experts will help you learn each of the steps necessary to learn the basics of surfing.

4. Just chill
While there are plenty of things in Tahiti to do, such as jeep tours, snorkeling, and other wild adventures, make sure that you take time to simply relax. Tahiti is a beautiful island that can bring a lot of needed peace. It is important to set aside plenty of time to relax on the beach or by the pool. Take time to read, listen to music, and soak up the sun. Don’t over program your trip and end up missing out on taking in the atmosphere of Tahiti. The nice thing about this island is that you don’t have to have a ton of things scheduled. Chilling on the beach is satisfying by itself. Listen to the ocean waves and the swaying of the palm trees. Forget about the stresses of everyday life and just enjoy the moment.
