Is it too Soon? Christmas Markets in Italy

I can’t imagine not going to Europe during the holidays especially Italy and this year we are going to need a holiday boost.  I am capitalizing on Christmas Market tours.

My favorite- The Piazza Navona which lights up with holiday cheer when the Christmas markets roll out.

The markets are open from the 8th of December until the 6th of January. During the week you can shop here from 10 am until 1am, on the weekends the market is open until 2 am.

You can find holiday treats, handicrafts, street performers and a carousel for the younger children.

If you are missing the taste of Germany train up to Florence to the Piazza Santa Croce for the German Christmas market – Weihnachtsmarkt where Christmas gets going in mid-november.

Heidelberg’s 500 year market tradition comes to Florence once a year and the small wooden stalls selling unique ceramics and handmade toys and ornaments makes for a great stocking stuffer.

Don’t miss out on Verona up north either.

Surrounded by gorgeous buildings of buildings of Palazzo della Region, Loggia del Consiglio, Palazzo del Podesta and Arche Scaligere you can find kiosks galore to fill up on Christmas gifts and cocoa.

End your experience in Venice.  This market usually opens three weeks before Christmas Eve and closes on December 24th. Concerts, food kiosks and local craftsman fill the square right next to the grand canal.
