Located in the very northeast of Africa, Egypt is a destination that exceeds expectations with its 138 pyramids and ancient ruins from the pharaohs. It is best to visit in the fall, or at least to avoid visiting in the summer due to the climate conditions. It is extremely dry except in the northern part that is located by the Mediterranean sea.

Egypt is home to 100.4 million people and is visited by many tourists each year due to the rich history of this timeless country that has ruins dated as far back as the 27th century B.C.

The Nile River

The Nile River flows from  Lake Victoria, through (or touches) 10 other countries, and then empties into the Mediteranean Sea. It is the longest river in the world. This river is also a great tourist attraction, especially in Egypt. Egypt is known for all of its ancient ruins and it just so happens that there are cruises available to view these ruins from the river. This is a very relaxing way to explore Egypt.

There is also a variety of wildlife in this river. This includes hippopotamus, soft-shelled turtles, and crocodiles to name a few.

The Camels

The dry egyptian terrain provides the perfect home for camels. There are many camel tours offered through the desert or along the beaches in Egypt. These animals were literally made for these great deserts with their thick eyelashes to keep the dirt out of their eyes. They are built to carry a lot of weight and are great for transportation.

Due to the weather, the fall is the best time to visit Egypt. The winter months can get kind of cold and the hot desert weather isn’t much better. The fall provides just the right temperatures to explore these beautiful barren lands.

The pyramids of Giza are the most popular tourist attraction in Egypt with roughly 14.7 million visitors a year. It isn’t hard to see why these structures are so famous. These pyramids are one of the remaining 7 wonders of the world. They were built approximately 2500 BC. It is a wonder how these ancient people were able to build these pyramids over the years.

Giza has three pyramids but it also has the famous Sphinx located in the middle of them. This Sphinx was once completely buried by sand but has been rediscovered since. It is definitely a part of Egypt you don’t want to miss.
